ACTIVITIES PERFORMED BY LEGAL METROLOGY OFFICERS
VERIFICATION AND STAMPING OF WEIGHTS & MEASURES
Verification and stamping of all weights, measures, weighing and measuring instruments used in transaction and protection such as fuel dispensing pumps, road weighbridges, in-motion rail weighbridges, electronic weighing machines, flow meters, storage tanks, vehicle tanks, automatic gravimetric filling machines, cast iron & bullion weights, beam scales, capacity measures, peg measures, taximeters and lot others.
REGULAR INSPECTIONS & REGISTRATION OF PROSECUTION CASES
- Regular inspections are done at shops, weekly markets, establishments, petrol pumps, industries, banks etc.
- Prosecution cases are registered for violation of various sections and rules under The Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and rules framed there under, such as:
- If any weight, measure, weighing or measuring instrument used in any transaction or protection is not verified and stamped, or date of re-verification is overdue, or if any alteration is made to cheat consumers.
- Mandatory declarations, such as MRP, manufacturer’s /packer’s address, date of packing etc. required on the body of the packages as per The Legal Metrology( Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011 are not properly followed.
