PROFILE OF THE DEPARTMENT:
The O/o the Sub-Divisional Statistical Officer, Morigaon started it’s journey in 1974 under the Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES), Assam which is one of the oldest Directorate of Assam and it has been functioning since 1948. In Assam this Directorate functions under the administrative supervision of Planning and Development department and at present department of Transformation & Development, Govt. of Assam. The main activities of this Directorate are Collection, Compilation and Analyze the data related to the Socio-Economic sectors of the state through various district and sub – division level offices. The Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES), Assam published “Statistical Handbook of Assam, Economic Survey of Assam and Assam at a Glance” annually. This Directorate also published various Census / Survey reports like LUS reports, NSS reports etc., time to time.

AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS –
The main activities of Agricultural Statistics Division are Collection, Compilation and Analyze the data under the schemes.
- Crop Estimation Survey (CES)
- Improvement of Crop Statistics (ICS), Crop Forecast report (Circle Level and Sub – Divisional Level)
- Land Utilization Statistics (LUS)
- Timely Reporting Schemes (TRS)
- Sample Survey on Areca nut, Coconut, Fruits and Vegetables (ACFV)

BLOCK LEVEL STATISTICS –
The Block Level information like village wise and GP wise population of the Development block, Village Index Register etc. are maintaining by the Block SIS of the office. Block SIS is also prepared the Block Quarterly Progress Report (BQPR), Annual Progress Report (APR), Block at a Glance regularly of his respective Development block where he is appointed. But due to vacancies of Block SIS in the o/o the SDSO, Morigaon collection of Block Level Statistics of Morigaon district are pending to till the date.
NATIONAL SAMPLE SURVEY (NSS) –
The National Sample Survey (NSS) are being conducted by the Govt. of India since 1950 to collect Socio Economic Data Employing Scientific Sampling Methods. At present the field work and Data entry work of NSS 79th Round has been completed. The subjects of enquiry for 79th round were as follows: -
1. Comprehensive Annual Modular Survey (CAMS)
2. Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy
(AYUS) survey.
The present survey i.e. 80th Round of NSS on Health will be conducted during the Calendar year 2025. The survey on health aims to generate basic quantitative information on the health sector. Computer – Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) software has been developed for collection of information. There are 12 no of Rural Samples and 8 no of Urban Samples total 20 no of Samples has been allotted by DES (HQ) for 80th Round NSS of Morigaon district.
OTHER AD-HOC SURVEYS / CENSUS / PUBLICATION ETC –
The O/o the SDSO, Morigaon conducts the following Ad-hoc Surveys and Censuses: -
- Agricultural Census
- Input Survey
- Assam Govt. Employee Census
- Economic Census
Agricultural Census: -
It is conducted after every five years through the Ministry of Agriculture and Co-operation of Govt.of India to collect qualitative information relating to Agricultural Holdings and area operated along with it’s characteristics and basic structure. Recently, O/o the SDSO, Morigaon have completed the Phase – I and Phase – II work of Agriculture Census 2021 – 2022.
Total Number of villages for Phase – I is 633 and Total Number of villages for Phase – II is 117.
Input Survey: -
Input Survey has been conducted as a follow up survey of Agriculture Census since 1976 – 77. The main objective of the survey is to generate data on consumption of various agricultural inputs according to major size group of operational holdings. The inputs covered in the survey include chemical fertilizer, HYV seeds, pesticides, farmyard manures, compost bio-fertilizer, agricultural implements, machinery, live stock and agricultural credit besides educational qualification, age and size of households of operational holders.
Total Number of villages allotted for Input Survey i.e. Phase – III of Agriculture Census of Morigaon district is 43 and all the Enumeration work and Supervision work has been completed in the month of August, 2025.
Assam Govt. Employee Census: -
The Assam Govt. Employee Census was initially taken up by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Assam in the year 1953 with 31st March as the reference date. At first it is carried out a annually till 1973. But after 1989 the census has been conducted after 5 years gape. The census cover all the regular employee working under the state govt. including regular work, charged employee, employees on contract basis and employees of the provincialised schools and other establishment with a view to collect various information pertaining to the employees of the state Govt. “All Employees of Assam Govt. and Other Establishment” as on 31st March, 2019 has been over.
Economic Census: -
The Economic Census is a comprehensive count of all entrepreneurial units engaged in economic activities within a country’s geographical boundaries, excluding those solely producing for their own consumption. It provides detailed information on establishment, employment, ownership and other characteristics, serving as a vital re]sources for planning and development particularly in the unorganized sector.
Already 7th Economic Census has been completed under the guidance of Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) Govt. of India. The MoSPI Govt. of India has partnered with CSC, SPV under Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity), Govt. of India to conduct 7th Economic Census of India. So, the Enumeration work of 7th Economic Census has been completed by CSC Morigaon.
