The District Tobacco Control Cell, Morigaon, organized an awareness rally and public meeting at Pobitora Hut on Saturday as part of the observance of World No Tobacco Day. The programme aimed to spread awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption and promote a tobacco-free society. The rally was flagged off by Assistant Commissioner Santosh Buragohain and Archana Sharma, General Secretary of Lekhika Samaroh Samity, in the presence of District Nodal Officer for Tobacco Control Dr. Jaya Prabha Bodo and other officials.Students of the GNM Training School actively participated in the rally by carrying placards and spreading messages against tobacco use. The rally passed through key areas around Pobitora Hut, drawing public attention towards the importance of adopting a tobacco-free lifestyle. The subsequent public meeting witnessed participation from members of various organizations, Anganwadi Workers, students, local residents, and members of the general public.Addressing the gathering, Dr. Jaya Prabha Bodo delivered an audiovisual presentation on the adverse effects of tobacco on human health and the environment. She highlighted the serious public health challenges posed by tobacco use and urged people to refrain from consuming tobacco products and to create awareness within their communities.The programme also featured a cultural segment by members of the Lekhika Samaroh Samity, who presented the inspirational song “Manuhe Manuhor Babe.” The event concluded with participants taking the No Tobacco Pledge and reaffirming their commitment to building a healthier and tobacco-free society.
